Backing Britain 3.0 - A New Hybrid of Online and In-Person Events

By Made In Group
schedule26th Apr 21

The Made in Group is Backing Britain's manufacturing sector with a new events plan for the remainder of 2021. This will include ‘member match making’ virtual breakfast mornings for more relevant networking and in-person taster events.

The new events campaign from the Made in Group is taking the best elements from the in-person networking events along with the digital capabilities learned during the pandemic.

Jason Pitt, CEO of the Made in Group, said: “We have reimagined how we deliver our events to include productivity and increase quality engagement. This new calendar of events will give members better visibility of what they can get involved in throughout the year and each event will be made up of ‘matched members’ for better, more engaged conversations.”

The Made in Group team is working behind the scenes to unify their data, segment members by roles so when it comes to events, the most relevant members will be invited to attend. The new ‘member matchmaking’ tool will use artificial intelligence to group members depending on what they buy, sell, what sector they sit within and what they would like to gain from the Made in Group events.

As we delve further into 2021, with a new lineup of new events, the Made in group reflects on what they have delivered over the past year.

The virtual Backing Britain expo that took place in August 2020, saw more than 2,000 people in attendance, and members were able to see who visited their stand. On top of this, the group also hosted nearly 30 events during the expo with the likes of senior figures from Williams F1, Brompton Bicycle, Aston Martin, Mclaren Automotive, and more. This was achieved by substantial additional development of the Made platform, and 2021 saw the deployment of the Made Futures expo - aiming to help learners and job seekers understand the opportunities available to them within the manufacturing sector.

On top of this, the group also launched a new live TV channel called Made Live TV; using web streaming software that allows users to go live across social channels. This has resulted in monthly online content, interviewing members, and transferring knowledge from partners and patrons. Jason concluded:

“We believe that the events programme that is purely in person or purely online misses some of the richness that the two combined can deliver. We have created Backing Britain 3.0 to improve members' experience, so expect to be able to engage more socially, have the option to attend more virtual breakfast events giving you the opportunity to engage with members in inaccessible locations, and get more data from those events. We also plan to open up the network to allow the cross-pollination of ideas between Yorkshire and the Midlands."

The new events schedule will see Backing Britain Virtual Breakfast Mornings, Backing Britain 3.0 Expo, and Backing Britain 3.0 Taster Events. In terms of more discussion-based, knowledge transfer events that do not require ‘member match making’, the schedule will include Made Masterclasses, Made Live TV: The Editor’s pick, and the Made Angels Investor network.  This new format represents the fusion of in-person and virtual gatherings, providing our members with a unique opportunity to retain productivity gains with the use of technology and also enjoy the social element in a more relaxed environment.
