Made LIVE TV hosted another interesting, inspiring, and engaging discussion between Yorkshire firms today for an episode of The Editor’s Pick. Editor Caroline Broad, Business Development Manager at Clarion - patron of Made in Yorkshire, sat down with representatives from Unison, Additive X, and Catax to discuss the latest news published to the Made in Yorkshire platform.

The Editor’s Pick is a great way to stay up to date with the latest Midlands and Yorkshire manufacturing news, streamed every other week on Wednesday at 12 pm. Kicking off the round of discussions with Made in Yorkshire members Unison, Stauff, and patron of the Made in Group Catax, Caroline spoke with Steve Chambers - Sales Manager at Unison. The pair discussed the announcement of Unison’s strategic partnership with fellow Made in Yorkshire member Stauff.

The UK’s leading tube bending specialists Unison have been supplying to global hydraulic industry supplier Stauff for the past 10 years. During the course of their long-established relationship, Stauff has purchased around thirty tube bending machines from Unison for their manufacturing facilities in Brazil, India, the USA, Russia, Australia, and the UK.

Steve said the two Yorkshire firms have a great relationship, and the strategic partnership affirms this. With Unison being guaranteed future orders and support contracts from Stauff, Stauff can benefit from discounted machines and tooling alongside training on annual service visits. This highlights the importance of collaborating with local businesses to future proof both parties and supporting the local economy.

Up next, Caroline spoke with Jacob Wilson - Growth Lead at Additive X who has recently achieved ISO 10993-1 certification for their Formlabs Tough 1500 Resin. This means the material is accredited for skin contact - making it specifically suited for the medical industry.

Jacob mentioned whilst many of Formlabs materials are suitable for skin contact, the Tough 1500 Resin is great for functional parts that need to flex and bend whilst keeping their shape. Additive X, 3D Printing specialists, first partnered with Formlabs in 2013, and together they have solutions to tick every box for their clients.

Finishing off the insightful discussion, Caroline chatted with Chris Parkhurst - Regional Development Director at Catax Group. The two discussed how grant funding is taking UK manufacturing to the next level and how Catax can support businesses with this.

Chris gave an outstanding figure that grant funding and R&D tax incentives could fund up to 70% of a manufacturer's innovative project. Manufacturing businesses can tap into this by proving that their project or idea will help the business improve efficiencies such as energy. This is especially important as governments look to manufacturers to help towards net-zero emissions by 2050.
