Westminster is a hive of activity right now, and Lord Whitby, Chairman of the Made in Group, today visited the Birmingham offices of Made in Group to give insight into the political landscape and to draw up a list of parliamentarians to invite for the Made in Groups annual visit to Westminster.
More than 70 members of Made in the Midlands and Made in Yorkshire have signed up for a trip to London to see the views from Parliament and the Thames – and meet MPs. After the visit, they will also have drinks on the terrace pavilion.
The group will call for the government to adopt a more active industrial strategy. There was a time when the government collected some fantastic findings from the shelved industrial strategy; there is now an opportunity for a refreshed government with new ministers to look again at the usefulness of this work and ensure the job is done. A population that will soon approach 70m will be unable to create prosperity and guarantee national security without a functioning and thriving manufacturing base.
Parliament returns from recess on the 11th of October, so perfect timing for the Made in Group’s Westminster visit.
