Diversity and inclusion have become pivotal elements in modern business success and social advancement. Manufacturing companies now have the opportunity to harness a broader spectrum of talent, thanks to the Made in Group's Inclusion Toolkit. This valuable resource empowers manufacturing businesses to embrace inclusivity and navigate the complexities of equality legislation while expanding job opportunities to a more diverse range of individuals.

A Valuable Resource

The Inclusion Toolkit, consisting of 40 pages of content written by Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) experts, offers comprehensive guidance for implementing best practices within the workplace. It covers aspects ranging from the hiring process to mitigating the legal risks associated with equality laws.

The Need for Awareness

The toolkit addresses the broad scope of equality legislation, which makes virtually no company immune to potential legal action. Even well-regarded employers have found themselves in tribunals due to this extensive legal framework.

"In economic challenging times and under the pressure within businesses to do more with less, there is clearly the risk to business continuity of claims that are dubious. However, companies do not have the time to go to court and spend hundreds of hours fighting these cases. Most give up and pay out regardless of guilt," noted Jason Pitt, CEO of Made in Group.

Mitigating Legal Risks

This highlights the importance of being proactive in fostering inclusivity and legal compliance. By adopting best practices and creating an inclusive environment, companies can prevent costly legal disputes and protect their reputation.

A Holistic Approach to Inclusion

It's vital to understand that equality laws serve a broader purpose—to improve inclusion and, by extension, enhance business competitiveness and societal safety. Embracing diversity and ensuring equal opportunities in manufacturing can stimulate innovation and creativity.

Sharing Expertise

The Made in Group is actively promoting its Inclusion Toolkit and the importance of inclusivity in manufacturing. They will participate in the Skills and Employer conference organised by Next Generation Makers on November 2nd at the Black Country IoT. This event offers a platform to discuss strategies for promoting inclusivity in the manufacturing sector.

Next Generation Makers: Promoting Skills and Innovation

Next Gen Makers, founded in 2018, has brought together over 50 engineering and manufacturing firms as part of its Engineering Apprenticeships: Best Practice Programme. This initiative allows companies to share insights on running successful apprenticeship schemes and benchmark their approaches to identify areas for improvement.

Adam Tipper, Managing Director of Next Gen Makers, highlighted the skills crisis in manufacturing and the need for new, effective talent development approaches. He said, "The Midlands is very much the heartland of manufacturing in the UK, so it made perfect sense to host our inaugural Skills Conference here. Through our network, we’ve been able to help companies develop their apprenticeship and talent development schemes through shared best practice insights and we hope to share this knowledge with an even broader audience in November."
