At Made in Yorkshire, we pride ourselves on bringing together best in class manufacturers and valued suppliers to foster collaboration, share best practices, and drive innovation in the industry. However it’s not always members coming to us, we do put the miles in too. Recently, our very own Sam Sleight visited the facilities of three esteemed members for a good catch up - Additive-X, APS UK, and ISF.
Additive-X is a pioneering additive manufacturing company that specialises in providing cutting-edge 3D printing solutions to a wide range of industries. Sam had the pleasure of catching up with the fountain of 3D printing knowledge that is Jo Young, Managing Director at Additive-X.
Sam reflected on his trip to the Ripon based additive manufacturing experts - “The extensive range of printers on display in the showroom [at Additive-X] is incredible and Jo’s wealth of knowledge and expertise in this area is second to none - she’s brilliant. So whilst walking around the array of metal, resin and powder printers, Jo was naturally talking me through and showing me the complexities of both the manufacturing process and the end products - it genuinely was fascinating. If I was thinking about investing in 3D printing technology, I’d have felt like a kid in a sweet shop there”.
Whilst on site at Additive-X, as well as getting to see their expansive warehouse and beautiful office space, Sam also got to see the new Form 4 in all its glory. This is the latest addition to the company’s diverse armoury of 3D printers, which was on display at Additive-X’s stand at MACH. Boasting an exceptional material printing library and lightning fast printing capabilities; the industry leading Formlabs Form 4 is certainly worth checking out.
On the drive back from Ripon, Sam also paid a visit to Material Handling and Dust Extraction System experts, APS UK. Whilst there, Sam caught up with their Sales Director, Matt Brown.
It’s exciting times at APS UK. With a number of significant projects in the pipeline, there’s never a quiet moment for their engineers out on the road. However, it’s safe to say Matt and the senior leadership team at APS certainly aren’t resting on their laurels. There is a strong focus on gradual sustainable growth at APS and they are taking all the right steps forward to achieve this.
To maintain their growth trajectory, APS are currently looking to take on a new Regional Sales Manager covering the South East. So keep an eye out on Made Futures for this vacancy or reach out to one of the team at APS UK if you or someone you know could be interested in this position.
The filtration and extraction system specialists already have a solid presence across a diverse range of industries; from Food to Chemical and from Pharmaceuticals to Animal Feeds. However, when discussing their strategy for continued growth, Matt exclaimed APS’ plans for taking strides into new emerging markets as well. As part of these plans, APS had taken the decision to exhibit at the Battery Cells and Systems Expo for the first time this year (stand 921). Hopefully those of you that made it down to the show will have caught them there. If you didn't however, then make sure you check out APS UK’s microsite instead to find out more about their array of engineering expertise.
Another distinguished Made in Yorkshire member renowned for their manufacturing prowess in the Animal Feeds sector in particular is ISF. Sam took a trip out to catch up with Project Manager and Senior Design Engineer, David Hukins.
It’s an exciting year for David and the team at ISF. The Material Handling and Process Solutions manufacturer are celebrating their 35th year in business!
No one will be more delighted than Managing Director and founder, Iain Scott. Having taken the company from being ‘one man in a van’ to the nationally recognised ‘go-to’ name for animal feed milling process solutions, it really is a cracking engineering success story.
To celebrate this brilliant milestone, the company will be putting the tools down for a team day out at the races. As well as having a good laugh, they will also be taking this opportunity to raise money for a couple of great causes in MacMillan Cancer Care and St Leonards Hospice by taking on the Three Peaks Challenge and committing to a ‘Cycle to Work Week’.
ISF, APS UK and Additive-X are all valuable members of the Made in Yorkshire network, each bringing their unique expertise, innovative solutions, and commitment to excellence to the table. By collaborating with other manufacturers in the network, these companies are able to grow their businesses, stay competitive in the market, and drive innovation for the wider manufacturing sector. Sam Sleight's visit to their facilities highlighted the value that each of these 3 incredible SMEs add to the Made in Yorkshire network.
