The Made in Group held their fortnightly Mastermind session today where members come together to discuss current challenges and how they can overcome them. Today’s session focused on how the sector can bring people back to work safely and how we can diversify to adapt to the industry’s changes.

The session began with members stating what their current challenges are within their businesses, some of which were addressed in the session with plans to discuss others in future sessions. Members who took part in today’s group were Edward James from Citizen Machinery, Garth Christie from Hazel 4D, Nick Godfrey from Citizen Machinery, Susan Marlow from Micro-Minster, Andrew Eastwood from Carrs Toolsteel, Paul Clark from Atlas Copco, Charles Boneham from Boneham and Turner, Paul Hodgetts from In-comm and Simon Orpe from Wrekin Sheetmetal with hosts Jason Pitt and Charles Addison from The Made in Group.

One of the challenges which were highlighted and discussed in today’s Mastermind was how the manufacturing sector can adapt and overcome challenges after the pandemic, with a particular focus on diversification.

A response to this was the need for manufacturers to embrace Industry 4.0 to modernize businesses. It was discussed that this could be implemented through Smart LINK, the ability to connect machinery, and retrieve data on its productivity.

In terms of diversifying, members highlighted the industry’s need to reshore business back to the UK. With comments on how this could shorten the supply chain and make the economy more robust.

It was mentioned that this could also be achieved by changing the mind of the consumer and encouraging people to buy British when and where they can.
