On Tuesday 14th December, MIM Patron OGL hosted a virtual Masterclass event for members of Made in Group, on "Protecting your 'Big Six' from Cyber Crime: Essential Info for Manufacturers".
OGL is the preferred technology partner to over 1,000 UK businesses, including growing and mid-size businesses as well as multi-site enterprises. Over 140 of these UK businesses are manufacturers, many of whom are Made in Group members - demonstrating our capability to support Made members in critical areas of their business.
Paul Colwell - Chief Technical Officer, at MIM’s IT & cyber security Patron Partner OGL - led the discussion. Made in Group decided that members needed to know about this topic, as cyber criminals are turning their attention to the manufacturing industry, realising the chaos they can cause (and hefty ransom they can demand) by halting a production line or compromising operational technology.
Paul has over 10 years’ experience in exploiting technology to deliver benefits for business. In recent years, working closely with leading names including HP, Microsoft, WatchGuard, AlienVault, Carbon Black and VMware, he has focused on driving the implementation of cutting-edge cyber security solutions to tackle the growing issue of cyber-crime amongst UK SMBs.
During this virtual event, Paul explained what the “Big Six” are and why getting cyber security in place to protect them is essential work for business owners and company directors. This 6 was defined as:
- Supply Chain
- Customers
- Staff
- Reputation
- Intellectual Property
- Profitability
Following this, Paul layed out some of the key concerns for firms, namely: IT & OT are now totally interdependent, supply-chain attacks, cyber-espionage (IP & Trade secrets) and attacks against automation.
Some of the other topics covered during this presentation include gang profiling and ransomware victims.
Following this, Paul delivered a detailed account of how firms can successfully manouerve themselves down 'The Road to Cyber Maturity'.
Those in attendance also heard stories about Made in Group members which OGL have already helped on the road to cyber security.
Finally, members were given the chance to ask questions and discuss some key topics from this masterclass amongst themselves.
OGL also offered, exclusively to MIM members, a FREE vulnerability test (worth £1500). Contact OGL through their microsite now to discover more.
