Virtual Breakfast Mornings from the Made in Group is connecting more and more manufacturers every other week. With a lineup of industry-leading speakers and breakout room sessions on relevant topics within the industry, Midlands and Yorkshire manufacturers are building relationships like never before.
35+ members of the Made in Group gathered via zoom for an exclusive breakfast morning with speakers Alan Pickering from Unison, Edward Bradley from SGS UK, and Neill Smith from the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). Following their inspiring speeches - stories of encouraging youngsters to get into manufacturing, the history of where the business began, and reshoring work back to the UK, members were welcomed to themed breakout rooms.
Kicking off the event CEO of the Made in Group Jason Pitt took to the stage to thank members for their ongoing support for the group. This was followed by a short reminder of how members can fully utilise the Events Module by viewing attendees, selecting their breakout sessions, and messaging members.
Like every Virtual Breakfast Morning from the Made in Group, members had the chance to introduce themselves and their business to the other attendees. Then, it was straight into speeches from the industry-leading speakers Alan, Edward, and Neill.
Beginning the trio of inspiring talks, Alan Pickering, Managing Director of Unison, discussed the company’s dedication to inspiring the next generation of engineers through their involvement with the University Technical College (UTC).
Established in 1973, Unison is the UK’s leading manufacturer of tube and pipe bending machines with major clients such as Mclaren and fellow Yorkshire member Stauff. Unison works closely with UTC to give children more opportunities to develop careers in manufacturing. In fact, a Senior Designer from Unison holds a seminar for students weekly at the UTC. Alan said: “Please do all you can to support the UTC movement by taking on apprentices, I encourage you all to have faith in the next generation.”
Next up was Edward Bradley, Business Manager at SGS UK. A fairly new member of the Made in Group, SGS offers inspection, testing, certification, and verification of products and services for businesses all over the world. The number one leader in accreditation and quality, SGS was founded in 1878 by transforming grain trading in Europe by offering agricultural inspection services. Now, the company consists of ten business segments operating across ten locations.
Finally, Neill Smith, Head of Manufacturing Support Services at the MTC, finished off the round of speeches with stories of how the organisation has helped UK-based manufacturers reshore work back to the UK from overseas. The MTC was established in 2010 as an independent research and technology centre. Recently, a client of Albert Jagger benefited from their services by having the chance to reshore their own invention anti-loose brackets back from China.
The breakfast morning concluded with two rounds of breakout sessions discussing relevant topics such as ‘Going Green: Low Carbon Supply Chains’ and ‘Globalisation Vs Regionalisation’.
